July 14-19, 2011
Hog Island, Maine

Please read below carefully before mailing application.

The mission of the Birmingham Audubon Society is to promote the conservation and greater knowledge of birds, as well as other wildlife. In support of this mission, the Birmingham Audubon Society is pleased to offer scholarships to school teachers in Jefferson and Shelby Counties to attend the National Audubon Society's Hog Island Audubon Camp-Sharing Nature: An Educator's Week. Applications should be postmarked no later than February 15, 2011.

The Hog Island Audubon Camp-Sharing Nature: An Educator's Week will take place from July 14-19, 2011, at Hog Island, Maine. Workshops using techniques in art, music, theater, journaling, and other disciplines will be presented, as well as a host of classic Audubon Camp field trips. The manager of K-12 Programs at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, will present activities from the Cornell Lab's popular BirdSleuth curriculum. These inquiry-based lessons will get your students outside to participate in citizen science, invite them to conduct their own investigations about local birds, and engage them in high-tech and hands-on activities that will lead to science and math understandings. There will also be several field trips to explore the island and the nearby Atlantic Puffin Project as well as other seabird colonies.

The scholarship to Hog Island Audubon Camp covers the cost of tuition ($1,000) and round-trip travel. Scholarship recipients are expected to pay a $100 deposit that will be returned to them after the camp and following completion of the requirement that they share with other teachers in a BAS-approved format or forum, what they learned about nature/environmental education at the workshop. The Birmingham Audubon Society will provide up to two scholarships. For more information about the camp, visit Hog Island Audubon Camp.
