Alabama Ornithological Society's winter meeting will be held Jan. 25-27, 2013.  Click here for more information and to register for this meeting.

During the AOS Winter Meeting, boat trips around Wheeler Dam will be available, weather dependent, for those interested. The boat can hold up to 25 people, but for birding room, we will limit each trip to 20 people. We must have 10 people on the boat to book a trip. Trips are planned for Friday afternoon (12:00-4:00), Saturday (trip time and length will be dependent upon number of interested participants), and Sunday afternoon (1:00-5:00). If we have more than 20 people interested in Saturday, we will have two trips (8:00- 12:00 and 1:00-5:00). If less than 20 are interested, we will have one trip (8:00-2:00). The four hour trips will be per person. If we do a six hour trip on Saturday it will be per person. Contact e-mail Damien Simbeck as soon as possible and let him know on which trip you would be interested . We will need to let Captain Steve know as soon as possible so he can make arrangements to be available. You may email me  to sign up at Friday night's registration, but only if the trips are scheduled (pre-registration of at least 10 people) and space is available. You will not have to pay until you board the boat. These trips will originate at the State Park Marina (below the lodge), and will include a run to Wheeler Dam, locking through the dam, circling Hog Island (The Point), a gull feeding below Wheeler Dam and return to the State Park. This is a great opportunity to see gulls, waterfowl, loons, grebes and eagles.
